Although my daughter absolutely does not want red gear, she is in need of an extra pair of pants and a jersey. This is perfect as it includes most everything your child needs (minus boots and helmet), and the price is right. The seller seems to be pretty honest with the description (mentions grease on the ankle, but says no rips, tears, or holes), the whole set is current at $30 with 2 bidders and 4 days left. If the price goes to high, there’s a bunch of other cheap gear on eBay right now.

Per my first post on the site, one of the most difficult things about having kids who ride is keeping them in gear that fits correctly. My kids grow like weeds, and it seems like they outgrow something every time we go riding.

eBay can be a great source for cheap, lightly used gear that can keep your kids safe on the track or the trail. These boots are the perfect example. They are the Fox Tracker Jr in kids size 13 (perfect for my son right now), and appear to be mostly unworn. The seller claims her son only wore them 4 time, and I believe it. They look nearly new. Typically, these boots are selling online for $80-$100, and they have a retail price of about $110, so these could be a good deal. The auction is closing in about an hour, and the price is at $40 with $11 shipping, so final price right now would be close to 50% off depending on to whom you compare the price. I wouldn’t bid much above 60, though, or the price with shipping gets awfully close to buying new. Good luck if you go for these boots!

Before sending your kids out on to the dirt to ride, it is a good idea to sign them up for some sort of training class. There are many choices depending on where you live, but the best one and most widely available, is the Dirt Bike School put on by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).

As far as I know, the MSF always has bikes (but not necessarily ATVs) available so you can do the training before buying your kids or yourself a bike. I have been through the ATV course and the Beginner and Experienced on-road courses, and always found the classes to be very informative and taught in a way that allows most everyone in the class to get the maximum benefit from the training.

Additionally, there are other companies that offer different types of off-road training specific to motocross or flat-tracking, but the MSF is a great starting point. I will be covering other types of schools in future posts…

I found this Honda CRF50 while surfing on eBay, and I think it would make a perfect first bike. It appears to be all stock, and the seller claims it was only ridden a few times. From the unworn look of the tires, that appears to be true. And the owner claims it has a transferable Honda extended warranty…

It’s located in Marietta, GA, so if it is fairly local to you, this would be a great bike for your tyke. If you are too far away to pick it up, you could use this bike as an example for what a clean, lightly used CRF50 or XR50 should look like.

Thanks for stopping by this new site. If you found it, hopefully you are a parent whose kids either already ride, or are about to start riding. Our goal is to make this great sport more accessible and affordable by providing information about the bikes, gear, and parts that your kids need to have fun and stay safe. Check back for updates, new parts and information, and what we hope will be lots of great writing and photos. See you on the trail!
